Intensive Mat-Plus (IMP)

Every Pilates program begins with a strong foundation in Matwork. This STOTT PILATES® course helps build repertoire from the ground up and teach clients body awareness before moving on to spring-resistance equipment. Learn countless modifications, how to cue for smooth transitions and incorporate fitness accessories into Matwork-based programing.

IMP provides the solid foundation needed to develop effective and motivating personal training and group programs. Learn to design and teach Level 1(Essential & Intermediate) Matwork repertoire, integrating light equipment to meet the needs of clients.

Functional Anatomy (FA)

The Functional Anatomy course fully prepares students for STOTT PILATES® training and serves as a refresher for anyone needing to fulfill the anatomy prerequisite for intensive courses. The classroom-style presentation utilizes visual aids and hands-on techniques to provide students with a thorough review of anatomy basics which will be instrumental in the completion of all Matwork and equipment-based courses.

This lecture-based course covers a complete range of functional anatomy topics. Th material presented will enable instructors to effectively apply biomechanical principles to teaching exercises and programming workouts for both personal training clients and group classes.

Instructors Learn:
Basic biomechanics (levers, effects of gravitational force, effects of muscle force)
Anatomical terminology, skeletal anatomy, actions at the joints, major muscle groups and the muscles’ origin, insertion and action.
How to break down and analyze select exercises from the STOTT PILATES® repertoire in terms of the functional anatomy at play.
Musculoskeletal functioning in order to enhance teaching skills.
How to apply anatomy basics to further develop postural analysis skills.

Intensive Reformer (IR)

The Reformer is the most popular piece of equipment in Pilates. Learn how to use this highly versatile tool to program and instruct personal training and group classes with confidence with hundreds of spring-resistance exercises.

This course teaches how to design and instruct Level 1(Essential and Intermediate) Reformer workouts in a personal training and group setting for a range of clients. Learn a variety of modifications and variations to expand programming options.

Intensive Stability Chair (ICHR)

Building on your industry knowledge and the material learned in IMP or IR you learn to design and lead the Level 1 Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES® Stability Chair repertoire for personal or group training settings for a range of clients.

What you will learn

Functional exercises to develop core strength against spring resistance in a variety of positions, including standing, sitting, prone and side-lying
How to apply the STOTT PILATES® Five Basic Principles to Essential and Intermediate-level Stability Chair exercises
Better understanding of movement essence and exercise goals, proper execution and muscle activation
How to improve core stability, increase peripheral strength and enhance mobility on one piece of equipment
How the split-pedal option transforms exercises by challenging bilateral, unilateral and reciprocal strength and stability
Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness

Requirements of certification

15 hours of instruction and supervised teaching
Minimum of 5 hours of observation
Minimum of 10 hours of physical review
Minimum of 10 hours of practice teaching
Total: 40 hours

Observation, practice teaching and physical review
A minimum number of hours of observation, practice teaching and physical review are required for all courses and should be completed between instructed sessions at any STOTT PILATES® facility. Additional training may be required before certification. Practice teaching and physical review hours must be logged outside of class time. The practice logs must be submitted on your exam date (either written or practical exam). If the student fails to submit all the logs within 7 days from the last portion of the exam, the entire exam will be void.

Observation
Includes watching sessions taught by a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor or relevant STOTT PILATES® videos.

Physical review
Means physically performing the exercises learned in class. Taking a class with a STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructor or working out with video can qualify as physical review hours, and can be completed individually or with other students.

Practice teaching
Hours can be fulfilled by instructing family, fellow students, friends or clients.
